Karen Miller's TNT Adventure

Howdy All!

For the past two years I’ve been involved with the North Texas Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) TEAM IN TRAINING (TNT). In April 2001, I went to Florida and completed my first Olympic distance triathlon. In June 2002, I went to Maui and completed my second Olympic distance triathlon. These events have not been easy; the fundraising and the training take time and patience. But it is all worth it when I see all the other TNT’ers out there (at each event there have been over 350 of us from various states). Plus, to hear from our heroes of what the TNT program means to them, it just brings tears to your eyes. It has been a great experience, so I continue on. For the Spring 2003 season, our chapter has added a Half Ironman. Guess who signed up? That’s right.

The TNT program helps athletes of all levels train for and complete a marathon, century ride, or triathlon. On May 10, 2003 I will be participating in a triathlon in Panama City, Florida (I have to pick a race in a fun city). The triathlon will consist of a 1.1 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and a 13.1 mile run. I will be training, along with about one hundred others in the North Texas area, to assist the organization in the efforts to battle leukemia and its related cancers, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and Hodgkin’s disease.

This season, the TNT program has partnered us with six local leukemia patients. These kids will give me the motivation I need to complete my training. As an extra plus, I am the head swim captain this season. I will play a big part in motivating the ‘the first time triathletes’ as well as the seasoned triathletes. This season I have committed to raise $4,500 in honor and memory of my HEROES.

My honor heroes are:
Cooper Cothran, Kaitlyn Wade, Zach Papin, Maura Morgan, Colbi Jordan, & Nitia Collins.

Margaret Minkus ........ a great friend with Hodgkin's, who is in remission and completed a Century ride (that's a 100 miles) in Lake Tahoe in June 2002 with the Northern CA's TNT Cyclying Team. YOU GO GIRL !!!!!!

And I'm also participating in loving memory of .....
John Godwin ........ John is the father a good college friend, Jamie Godwin. Jamie, Margaret, and I were in the San Jose State Marching Band together.

Thanks for visiting. Have a most excellent day & don't forget to sign my guestbook. Also, please browse .... look at some of my pictures & read the stories of my past adventures.

Thx Millions,
Karen
